Description

the Solaris 60 (year 2023) represents Italian excellence in the Mini-Maxi segment, a vessel born from the pencil of the renowned naval architect Javier Soto Acebal. Conceived as a pure fast cruiser, this luxury yacht perfectly blends the soul and performance of an offshore racing yacht with the refined comfort, safety and seaworthiness required for long oceanic cruises

.The Solaris Yachts shipyard applies the same rigorous structural construction techniques to the 60 model as those reserved for large Maxi yachts:

• Structural Monoblock: The hull, deck and structural bulkheads are connected in a single monolithic block through hot resin infusion. This eliminates the typical creaks and guarantees extraordinary torsional rigidity, fundamental for withstanding the heavy loads of the sail plan.

• Evolved Waterlines: Compared to previous models, the 2023 hull features more voluminous bow sections. This design prevents pitching and keeps the boat extremely dry on deck, ensuring a smooth and safe passage through the waves.

• Appendages and Draft: Stability is ensured by a ballast of 7,900 kg applied to a lead bulb and an iron fin. The standard draft is 3.20 metres, but to maximise versatility on cruise, the option with lifting keel (lifting keel from 2.40 to 4.00 metres) is available.

• Engineering and Layout: Below deck, the typical craftsmanship of the shipyard stands out. The central dinette is raised and clearly separated from the spacious kitchen located amidships. For the first time in this size, the aft layout offers the flexibility to configure cabins with single or double beds with large windows overlooking the cockpit. Aft, a tender garage is also integrated with longitudinal access that disturbs the interior spaces very little.

⛵ Performance and Seakeeping

Sea trials highlight how the Solaris 60 manages to express astonishing agility and acceleration:

• Power-to-Weight Ratio: With a standard sail area of 201 m² (divided equally between the mainsail and jib) and a light displacement of 25,800 kg, the boat has a power-to-weight ratio decidedly oriented towards performance.

• Stability and Control in Strong Winds: Under the most demanding gusts (up to 25-30 knots of Meltemi), the boat expresses the maximum of its safety and seaworthiness. Even when heavily heeled with reduced mainsail and genoa, it responds to the helm impeccably, proving reactive and never nervous. On broad reaches, it easily and stably reaches continuous speeds of 12 knots.

Main Deck

  • The deck of the Solaris 60 (2023) represents the heart of technological and ergonomic innovation of this Mini-Maxi. Designer Javier Soto Acebal has redefined the on-board circulation and the arrangement of the deck equipment, introducing engineering solutions that are solitamen
  • Here is a detailed technical analysis of all aspects of the main deck:
  • 🕹️ The "Full-Width" Helms and the Cockpit Revolution
  • The most important technical feature of the Solaris 60 lies in the extreme tapering and lateral positioning of the helm columns:
  • • Open Visibility and Safety: The two helm wheels are located at the edge of the external bulwarks. This choice allows the helmsman to steer completely outside the obstruction of the sprayhood (the spray dodger). The line of sight towards the bow remains totally clear, allowing a
  • • Twin Rudder: The symmetrical arrangement of the wheels commands a twin rudder system (spade rudders), an ideal configuration for maintaining millimetric control and exceptional responsiveness even when the boat sails at strong heeling angles.
  • • Ergonomics of the Seats: Aft of the helms are integrated, differentiated and shaped seats. They allow the helmsman to steer comfortably from a seated position in various heeling conditions, maintaining a safe and ergonomic position.
  • 🎛️ Disposizione delle Manovre e Filosofia "Easy Sailing"
  • All the deck equipment is designed to allow the yacht to be handled with a reduced crew (shorthanded), concentrating the force on the key points:
  • • 4 Winch Layout: On the Solaris 60, only four high-load winches are needed to manage the entire yacht. They are positioned near the helms, within direct reach of the helmsman or the second crew member.
  • • Maneuver Circuit: From the halyards to the mainsheet, through the jib sheets, every line runs inside protected and recessed channels under the deck (under-deck halyards). This leaves the coachroof and side decks completely clear of loose lines, eliminating the risks of
  • • Integrated Bow Systems: The deck features, as standard, a recessed rail for the self-tacking jib, eliminating any obstruction. At the bow, the structural carbon bowsprit serves both as an anchor point and as a fixing point for the Code 0 or Gennaker furler.
  • 🧗♀️ Walkaround Circulation and Rigging Engineering
  • The movement flows on board have been revolutionized with a system that combines the comfort of a cruiser with the safety of a racer:
  • • Clear Passage: The guest cockpit, equipped with two large folding tables and ample seats, is entirely separated from the maneuvering area.
  • • Aft Deck Engineering: To allow for lateral movement of the steering wheels, the aft deck's coamings lower geometrically and then rise again in line with the two steps leading to the side decks (passageways). This solution ensures the mast
  • 🏗️ Deck Construction and Structural Integration
  • The deck is not just a walkable surface, but an active component of the hull's structural rigidity:
  • • Monolithic Lamination: The GRP deck is hot-resin bonded and laminated solidly to all bulkheads and the hull. This process eliminates the use of structural adhesives or silicones typical of mass-produced boats, creating a single, indestructible piece.
  • • Composite Chainplates: The chainplates (the anchor points for the shrouds that support the mast) are integrated directly into the hull sides and made from composite material with over 40 layers of unidirectional glass and carbon fabrics. This distributes the enormous tensions of the mast directly
  • • Teak Finish and Flush Deck Hatches: The deck is entirely covered in high-quality teak planks. All hatches on the coachroof and foredeck are strictly of the flush deck type (mounted flush with the deck), ensuring a clean aesthetic and preventing sheets from getting caught
  • 📐 Accessories and Functional Openings
  • • Tender Garage: Integrated at the stern, it features a hydraulic door that transforms into a large, fold-down teak beach platform. The compartment allows for longitudinal stowage of the tender without sacrificing the heights of the internal cabins.
  • • Calavele Serviced: In the bow, there is a very deep and structural calavele locker, ideal for storing respect sails (Gennaker, storm sails) and fenders, accessible through a large servo-assisted hatch.

Lower Deck

  • The interiors of the Solaris 60 (2023) reflect the historic philosophy of the Friulian shipyard: high-level artisanal joinery, clean lines, and a rigorous rationalization of spaces designed for life at sea. The design, curated by the internal technical office in collaboration with Rino
  • ⛵ Layout and Organization of Spaces
  • The organization below deck breaks with the classic schemes of traditional 60-footers, offering exceptional movement fluidity:
  • • The Saloon (Central Dinette): It is the pulsing heart of the boat. Taking advantage of the maximum beam of 5.28 metres, it offers a large "C"-shaped sofa on the left side, served by a generous dining table. On the right side, there is space for a second linear sofa. The key feature is the absence of
  • • The Galley at Midships: Positioned slightly lower than the saloon and arranged longitudinally, the galley elegantly separates the daytime area from the nighttime area in the bow. It is an extremely technical and safe environment for the on-board cook: the corridor configuration offers excellent handholds and
  • • Chart Table Area: Discreetly integrated into the saloon, it offers a dedicated seat and an electric/domotic panel that can be hidden, ideal for monitoring the on-board systems without altering the minimalist aesthetics of the environment.
  • 🛏️ Cabin Configuration
  • The Solaris 60 offers great flexibility in customization to satisfy both the owner who loves to sail with their family and those who host racing or luxury charter:
  • • Owner's Cabin (Bow): It is a real suite located forward of the galley. It features a large central double bed (Island Bed) accessible from both sides, large wardrobes and an integrated dresser. It has a private monumental bathroom with shower box
  • • Guest Cabins (Stern): Aft of the companionway, two twin cabins develop. The real innovation of the 2023 model is the possibility of configuring them with separate single beds (ideal for children or crew in regatta) or with a large double bed. Both enjoy
  • • Crew Cabin (Forepeak): At the extreme bow, with independent access from the deck hatch, a cabin for the sailor can be set up, complete with bed, wc and sink.
  • ✨ Technical Details, Finishes and Comfort
  • What makes the Solaris 60 interiors unique is the hidden engineering care behind the aesthetics:
  • • Materials and Finishes: The standard wood is clear oak or teak, treated with satin varnishes that enhance the grain. The structural bulkheads are covered with lightweight panels that acoustically insulate the rooms.
  • • Acoustic and Thermal Insulation: The engine room (central, located under the companionway) is sealed with multiple layers of high-density sound-absorbing material. Even during motor navigation, the noise in the dinette and in the aft cabins is reduced to a minimum.
  • • Intelligent Storage: Every useful millimetre under the floorboards (the floor) and behind the sofas has been transformed into lockers and drawers, a fundamental detail for long navigations where pantries and equipment require a lot of space.
  • • Brightness: In addition to the long fixed windows on the deck, the hull features large portholes that allow you to look at the sea directly while sitting in the dinette or lying in the beds.
